Values Cultures & Kids

ideas and resources for teaching about child development and family

"Modern Britain is a highly complex, interdependent society; our lives are intertwined with the lives of people all over the world. We are part of profound social and cultural changes but are only starting to come to terms with the implications of these changes for the school curriculum."

The project that led to the handbook publication in 1986 was designed to respond to:

  • the need for classroom materials which recognize and make positive use of our multicultural society and interdependent world;
  • the need for teaching ideas and methods which make constructive use of the varied experiences and back- grounds of pupils;
  • the need for methods of which acknowledge the variety of skills learnt by pupils on family related courses.
